Truck has original motor and drive train.
by Scuba on Monday, August 08, 2016
Original motor and drive train. 3rd set of brakes and 2nd battery. Keep up with oil changes and general service. Tows a double axel trailer with a 4000 pound tractor. Rust areas around wheel well lip openings. Very happy with the longevity of this truck. Maybe purchasing a new F-150. Hope the new truck last as long. And performs like my 2005 F-150. - 5.0
Mostly Great Truck!
by Bradley B on Thursday, August 22, 2024
I’ve had a 2004 F150 FX4 for the last 10 years. Now has 202k miles. It’s been a great truck. I am on my second engine…timing chain lack issues around 180k necessitated a rebuilt to be swapped in. That’s the only major repair I’ve done. Recently put in a new stereo with CarPlay, newly reupholstered front seats, and a few other odds and ends like headlight housings and such. Basically, I figure putting a few dollars into maintaining my old truck is far wiser than the cost of a new truck these days! I know I’ll get another 5+ years out of it and that makes me happy. Overall, Ford nailed it with this design. It rides nicely, doesn’t wear out tires like my old Dodge 2500, has plenty of power, is comfortable and reliable, and most of the important parts are still doing their job just fine after 20 years. This is why F150’s are the most common vehicle owned by millionaires and why they are claimed to be the longest lasting trucks on the road. I’ll buy it. I’m keeping mine a while longer! - 4.0
Review after 2 1/2 years of ownership...
by Steve on Monday, February 27, 2023
Bought this truck at 145,000 miles for $5500 private sale in NC, then put $4500 worth of body work and catch up maintenance into it, so $10k to start. Now I'm in NH. Overall for a 16 year old truck I'm very satisfied, especially when you look at the price of new trucks nowadays that are only about 5-10% better than this one, it's a great value. Smooth ride, good power, still looks good. Wish it got better gas mileage, but oh well. Gas is cheap (laughing VERY hard). Very practical, has served me well while I'm building my house. I've had to replace two coil packs and spark plugs since the initial maintenance, this seems to be a soft spot in this 5.4L v8 engine. Not hard to do, depending on which cylinder is misfiring. The back half of the engine is a bit far underneath the base of the windshield, can be tricky. But oodles of parts are available and plenty of online videos to help you do your own maintenance. I'm only giving it 4 stars because I'm such a stickler for gas mileage but it's served me very well.
